Allergic Rhinitis

The symptoms of hay fever are often caused by allergens and result in nasal passage inflammation. Problems with the eyes, ear, nose, and throat may be miserable. For all the following conditions, a single underlying allergen may be the source.

Eye symptoms can include:

  • Itchy or watery eyes
  • Rubbing eyes
  • Red eyes

Ear symptoms can include:

  • Ear pain or pressure
  • Decrease in hearing and dizziness

Throat symptoms can include:

  • Frequent sore throat and scratchy throat
  • Constant throat-clearing
  • Post-nasal drainage
  • Chronic dry cough

Abnormalities in the nose can cause:

  • Difficulty breathing
  • Snoring disturbance during sleep
  • Sinus pain or pressure
  • Frequent headaches
  • Recurrent sinus infections
  • Coughing
  • Sneezing
  • Nasal itching
  • Congestion (stuffiness) of the nasal passage
  • Runny nose

Chronic skin conditions:

  • Rashes
  • Hives
  • Eczema
  • Itching

Common triggers include:

  • Tree pollen
  • Grass pollen
  • Weed (Ragweed) pollen
  • Pet (cat, dog) dander
  • Mold
  • Dust mites
  • Cockroaches
